Film Opening Project: Introducing the Plan
The Film Opening Plan
Hello everyone! Today I have decided to share what will be the blueprint of me and my partner's (Natalia) film opening project. After discussing different ideas and considering what the both of us are interested in, we decided to take on the genre of drama!
Overall Storyline / Inclusions in Opening
For this post, my main focus are the ideas and themes of film, as well as how the film opening relates to what the rest of the film is about. The film is about a character named Stella (who I will talk more about in detail for another post), and about her journey on pursuing her dreams within the acting industry. We decided to make Stella belong to a part of an underrepresented group in the media world, being those that are disabled. We also did this to showcase how much more difficult it is for many underrepresented groups of people to successfully make it in the acting industry.
In the duration of the film opening, Stella will be shown in the movie theater with a group of friends. In the movie theater, a black and white film will be playing on the large theater screen. Stella is shown admiring the actress on the theater screen, as it is her dream to become an actress. While watching this black and white film, Stella realizes how badly she wants to become an actress and will do what it takes to be successful in the industry. At the end of the film opening, the movie theater lights will go out, representing how Stella's mind snaps back to reality, and the realization of this harsh journey comes to life.
The film itself is supposed to outline the harsh reality of how challenging it is for a disabled individual to make it successfully through the acting industry and be able to pursue these dreams. This also highlights how this journey will take an emotional toll on Stella, as she is insecure about her dreams due to her fear of criticism from others. This film will also deal with finding one's identity, as Stella will learn more about herself and finds her true color throughout this whole journey. Our main inspiration for this kind of story comes from the following films...

Film Opening Project: Starting to Research
The History of the Horror Genre
So Many Genres, What Do I Choose?
There are so many genres that I have to take into consideration when thinking about what to use for the film opening of the Cambridge Portfolio Project. Fantasy, Horror, Romance, Comedy, Thriller, Drama, are all just a small percentage of the many genres out in the media sphere. So, you may be asking, " Hannah, how do you expect to pick the best genre for your project?", or "How will you and your group members agree on the genre?"
In all honesty, my group has not picked a final genre to use, which is fine, considering how we should only be doing research within this week. This is why each member will be taking the time to consider which genre options are most appealing. For this reason, I decided to explore one of my favorite film genres, being horror.
What is Horror?
Horror is a type of genre that focuses on fear and suspense to appeal to an audience. The mood and atmosphere of these film tend to be filled with suspense, incorporating scenes in which everything goes still and quiet to create shock for the next scene. While horror films may focus on fantastical creatures like ghosts and monsters, the most popular plots for horror films nowadays revolve around serial killers and slashing stories.

Cambridge Portfolio Project - First Step!
Cambridge Portfolio Project - Week 1
Hey everyone! I am back on here to share with you guys the process I will be going through as I approach the Cambridge Portfolio project. I will share everything, from my thought processes to the steps I take, and to examples of my work.
As it may sound, the name of this project seems like a HUGE deal. Which, if you thought this, then you're right. When I first heard about the project and the overview on it, I freaked out a little bit. But I felt motivated to give it my best efforts. To fully understand what I should be doing to be successful in this project, I read the instructions SO many times. Like I don't think you understand. I feel like at this point I memorized at least half of the instructions after reading it so many times.
One of the main parts of this portfolio project is that I have to create a 2-minute film opening to any genre of film of our choosing. There are obviously other components to this project, but for now, I should focus on this one. The first step would obviously be to conduct research on different genres, but I wanted to first think about the genres I would be most interested in. So, after getting a full grasp on the instructions, I started thinking to myself about ideas for the opening. Specifically what ideas I would use for which type of genres.
A lot of my inspiration came from my AICE Media Studies teacher, who showed the class several examples of high scoring projects, which to be honest did come off as a bit intimidating. However, this only fueled my motivation.
The first genre that came to mind was horror, because I feel that the techniques, I have learned in my media class will enable me to create the suspense necessary for the plot of the film to have. However, I also thought about other genres, like drama. I feel like with the right music, I could create a dramatic peace, like if the speed of the shots correlates to the beats of the song.
I will admit though, I haven't done thorough research on either of these genres, but I have programmed myself to do so during week 2 of working on this project. So, in this case, my main concerns in terms of research would be researching the genres of both horror and drama. So, for next week, I will be working on mainly genre research, learning more about its technical aspects, common plotlines, examples, etc.
Stay tuned with me for next week as I go more in depth with this project!

Music Marketing Blog Post #2
Music Marketing Project Full Process
To begin preparing for the music marketing project, my group first went to the assignment page, which talks about what is needed in the project for a high score. Each member in my group read the instructions and the rubric individually in order to fully grasp and understand the steps we must take to become successful in this project. We then came back together as a group to discuss the project's instructions and make sure that everyone is clear on what has to be done and that we are all on the same page.
Our teacher then came around each group and gave each group a different genre to guide our project's focus, which for us was the genre of Pop. After receiving this genre of music, we had to begin the first step of the project, which was to conduct and compile research on this genre in the form of a chart to keep the information organized. My group shared a document of this chart, which included the history of a music label, its artists/ groups, and two case studies underneath this company that showcase different distribution practices and marketing techniques.
Phase 1: Music Research Charts/ Schedule
We had to make two charts, one for each music label we did research on, and then under that the categories that were previously mentioned. So, my group, which consists of four members, split up in half for this section. So, two members worked together on one company, and the other two on the other. The music labels we chose were Sony Music Entertainment and Capitol Records, and so we began to do our research.
This is how our research charts looked like when we finished collecting information on both companies.Film Opening
